Plantar Fasciitis

plantar fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis can affect children, however it usually affects adults mostly.

Plantar Fasciitis is a painful inflammatory condition, characterised by first step pain when rising in the morning or from a chair after resting.

Pain usually presents under the sole of the foot anywhere from the heel area to just behind the metatarsal heads & can be in one foot or both at the same time.

Onset is usually in mature adults but equally also in those who are more active or spend long periods on their feet.

Plantar Fasciitis can be linked to sporting activities & the working enviroment. Long duration on your feet or poor foot function can lead to an overloading of soft tissue structures under the foot, resulting in pain.

Plantar Fasciitis may present for just a few weeks but in many cases it can be present for a number of years.

Plantar Fasciitis Management

To diagnose Plantar Fasciitis a detail exam is required, often a patient history will confirm the condition however a thorough Musculoskeletal exam is required to understand why you have developed Plantar Fasciitis!

Many factors may lead to overloading of the plantar fascia from tight posterior leg muscles, previous injuries, foot deformity, footwear, work and even leisure activities.

Sporting activities such as running, walking, hiking, cycling & work activities such as long hours standing on hard floors, gum boots, work boots, not utilising anti-stress floor mats etc can all contribute.

There is often not a one simple single solution and a tailored plan often involves Stretching exercises, footwear, Orthoses, Plantar Fasciitis Night Socks, pain relief, activity modification, dry needling & possibly a steroid injection may be required.

All of which will be discussed with & explained during your assessment
