Moonboots
Moon boots are orthopedic supports designed to immobilise & protect the foot & ankle following an injury, such as fractures, sprains, or post-surgical recovery. These boots are beneficial for several reasons:
Immobilization: They provide stability to the injured area, minimizing movement and preventing further injury during the healing process.
Weight Distribution: Moon boots are designed to distribute weight away from the injured foot, allowing for safe mobility and reducing pain when walking.
Adjustable Fit: Many models feature adjustable straps and padding, allowing for a customized fit that accommodates swelling and provides comfort.
Shock Absorption: The soles often have built-in shock-absorbing properties, which help reduce impact when walking.
Encouragement of Mobility: Unlike traditional casts, moon boots allow patients to gradually regain mobility, promoting circulation and preventing stiffness without compromising healing.
Overall, moon boots are an effective tool for supporting recovery from foot and ankle injuries.
Moon boots are advised to anyone suffering with pain greater than a 5/10 on the pain score.
Moon boots can be purchased from our reception, they have full fitting instructions included however a fitting consult is advised, as the Podiatrist can review your specific injury and demonstrate the fitting of & organise all your rehabilitation needs at the same time.
Moonboots have a thicker than standard sole & many incorporate a rocker bottom to make walking easier. An “Evenup” is a device that fits over the shoe on the unaffected foot to offset the increased height of the Moonboot. They help reduce ankle knee, hip & lower back discomfort that can occur with wearing just a moonboot.
